NEW DELHI. Favourable international prices are putting pressure on the Indian chickpea market and traders are not optimistic about possible price increases. The humidity during the monsoon season could lead to additional problems.

No major price increases expected

Chickpea prices on the global market are currently relatively favourable, which is also depressing prices in India and has led to a decline in exports. At the same time, Indian production has increased significantly this year, leading to an oversupply. Market players are therefore no longer expecting sharp price increases this year. "A marginal price rise of two to three rupees is possible, but a long-term rise is not expected this year," an Indian trader told Mundus Agri.
