NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. Prices for Indian chickpeas are continuing their upward trend, as a smaller crop and brisk exports are supporting the market. In Canada, too, production is significantly lower than in the 2025/26 season.

Lower supply and strong exports are supporting the market

Prices for Indian chickpeas have recovered from their recent lows and are continuing their upward trend. The key factors are this year’s smaller crop and attractive export prices, which have led to a steady flow of goods from the growing regions throughout the year. Around 2.3 million mt have been harvested in the current season, compared with 3.0 to 3.1 million mt in each of the two previous years. These had left high carry-over stocks. Around 800,000 mt have now been exported.
