NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. The chickpea market remains stable in both India and Canada. In India, strong export demand and a smaller crop are supporting prices, while in Canada market players are waiting to see how the new crop turns out.

Export demand drives up prices

Export prices for Indian Kabuli chickpeas have risen further this week. Larger sizes in particular have seen significant price increases. This trend reflects firm demand in key export markets, particularly in Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. The higher export prices are also providing support on the Indian domestic market. As a result, the market situation has recently become firmer overall. Chickpeas, 42-44 (12 mm), are currently trading at USD 1,145/mt FOB India.
