LODZ/OTTAWA. Despite the concerns of the Russian flaxseed farmers, the prices for prompt deliveries remain unchanged, and buyers are keeping a low profile when it comes to making requests.

For the new crop in Eastern Europe, prices starting at 425 EUR/mt FCA Poland are even circulating on the market, but there are no official offers yet. There definitely is sufficient purchase interest and Polish cleaning plants seem to have had the right instinct in increasing their processing capacities.

Crop worries in Russia

Only recently market players were saying that the danger had passed, that the sowing of the fields was developing better than they thought. Meanwhile, farmers are worrying again about their flaxseed production.

Russian farmers report that the sowed fields were not germinating as well as they hoped, which could lead to a lower yield per hectare. There was also a delay, and due to the resulting later harvest, the plants will be exposed to higher precipitation and frost risks.

News from Canada

This week, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada published the current report on flaxseed production for the current and coming season. No changes were made this time. It can still be assumed that the flaxseed production will reach 635,000 mt this year thanks to the larger acreage, and together with surpluses from the 2016/17 season, it is predicted that 845,000 mt of Canadian flaxseed will be available on the market for the coming season.
