Flaxseed: Canada to raise exports by 25%

OTTAWA/LODZ. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has issued new estimates for 2019/20. Several traders have got rid of their stocks.

Traders in Canada are cautious

The June estimates remain firm over May. Acreage and yields are expected to increase by 16% and 5% respectively over 2018 and production is to rise by 22% to 600,000 mt. However, the drought in Saskatchewan, the largest growing region for flaxseed in Canada, is causing concern.  

In which direction the export market will develop is at least as uncertain. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada currently expects overseas shipments to rise by 25% to 500,000 mt in the next season. However, the US is expecting a very good crop t
