OTTAWA/ASTANA. The Canadian Statistical Office has adjusted its forecast for the 2019/20 flaxseed season. Yield expectations have been revised downwards compared with previous estimates.

Smaller than expected crop
Instead of the 400,000 ha previously expected, the Canadian flaxseed farmers are expected to plant 405,000 ha for the coming crop. However, since the yield estimates have been reduced by 3.2% to 1.51 mt/ha, the new forecast of 600,000 mt is about 15,000 mt smaller than in the April report.

Compared to the 2018/19 season, a 22% increase in production is nevertheless to be expected thanks to the overall increase in cultivated areas and a higher average yield.
