LODZ. With the preparations for sowing in full swing the market is anxiously wondering how prices will develop.

Although prices greatly vary each week in Russia and Kazakhstan, they on average remain slightly above 300 EUR/mt FCA. It is highly unlikely that prices will rise in the long run since the farmers urgently require money to finance sowing at the end of March / beginning of April.

Growing supplies

Traders reckon that the prices for flaxseed purified in Poland should remain stable over the next few weeks. Many processors are operating at full capacity. There are, however, only few enquiries for prompt deliveries.

It is expected that the increase in processing in Poland will have an impact on availability in autumn. If the 2017 crop should yield a good production and good quality it is very possible that prices will drop further. The prices for Eastern European flaxseed have already dropped to the very low level of 490 EUR/mt DDP Germany. It was only last year that they fell to a seven-year low of 460 EUR/mt DDP Germany. The market witnessed a record high of 780 EUR/mt DDP Germany in June 2013.
