Flaxseed: Fear of bad investments

LODZ. Rumour has it that more and more large companies are buying flaxseed directly from the source. Polish processors are criticising this development, certainly not entirely for unselfish reasons.

After the slight increase in the previous week, the prices for flaxseed from Eastern Europe have stabilised again.

"High stakes for buyers"

Polish seed cleaning plants have expanded their capacities to be able to process more flaxseed for the West European market in upcoming seasons. Could this prove to be a mistake?

If the buyers are increasingly purchasing their flaxseed directly from the source and also have it cleaned there, Polish processors would hardly be able to benefit from their greater capacities. Polish traders argue with the longer transport routes, which can cause problems especially in the winter, and with the unreliability of Russian and Kazakh cleaning plants.

Sowing is decisive

At present, one can only speculate on how the market will develop in the coming weeks and months. The size of the cultivated area in the main producing countries will be decisive, among other factors. In Russia and Kazakhstan, sowing should start at the beginning of April.
