OTTAWA/BRUSSELS. Flaxseed is trading higher in Canada. Eastern European flaxseed is showing different trends. EU imports are down.

New crop prices up in Canada

Prompt shipments of the 2024 crop have recently risen a bit in price to CAD 22.00-24/bu EXW. Quotations for the new crop have already reached CAD 22.00/bt, which is much higher than at the end of May when they still ranged at CAD 17.00-17.50/bu.

Reductions in acreage will prompt production to range 11% lower at 230,000 mt in Canada in 2025/2026. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada also anticipates total supplies to decline by 24% to 330,000 mt as the carry-over stocks from the current season are limited. According to Rayglen Commodi
