Flaxseed: Limited supplies, despite record crop

ASTANA. Supplies are running low and less raw seeds are arriving in Europe. Around half a million tonnes are still available in Kazakhstan.

 

Record export volume

According to the Statistics Committee in Kazakhstan, the national oilseed stocks totalled 1.61 million mt on 1 January 2019. Sunflower seeds (588,880 mt) and flaxseed (571,350 mt) account for about two thirds. In addition, there are 273,250 mt of rapeseed. The remaining 173,520 mt comprise further oilseeds such as soybeans, mustard seeds, etc.

Due to the carry-overs from 2017/18, more than 1 million mt of flaxseed were available in Kazakhstan this season. The export volume for 2018/19 is expected to reach a record level. W
