Flaxseed: Production estimates for 2019/2020

LODZ/OTTAWA. Statistics Canada has issued the first production estimate for 2019/2020. The data provided also gives an outlook on what the market may expect in the new season.

615,000 mt to be harvested

In 2018, Kazakhstan, Russia and the Ukraine accounted for nearly half of global production. Market players, however, reckon that these three countries will again reduce production this year.

Contrary to this, production is set to recover in Canada, where acreage and yields were rather disappointing over the last few years. According to the latest StatsCan report, acreage should rise by 15% to 400,000 mt in 2019/2020. If yields range at 1.56 mt/ha, production could rise to 615,000 mt.
