OTTAWA/ASTANA. While the market witnessed a record production in Kazakhstan this season, matters are quite different in other producing countries. In Canada and the USA, for instance, production clearly falls short of expectations.

Production declines by 11%

Towards the end of the year, StatsCan has once again revised its production estimates downwards. As little as 493,000 mt were harvested in Canada last year, which is 11.2% less than in 2017 and 16.6% less than in 2016. Since the significant drop in acreage was offset by improved yields a further declined in production was prevented.

Exports from Canada amounted to 113,200 mt by Mid-December. In 2018/19, exports are expected to total 400,000 mt (-22.3% year-on-year). China remains the most important export destination
