Average export price significantly down
In 2025, Peruvian ginger exports were under noticeable price pressure. Although international demand remained high in terms of volume, falling world market prices and intense competition in the sales markets led to a decline in export value, according to the Peruvian agricultural news site fresh fruit. Overall, exports reached 106.4 million USD, around 10% below the previous year's level. At the same time, the volume exported increased by 13% to 58,747 mt, clearly indicating a price-related decline in value. The average export price fluctuated over the course of the year, but showed an overall downward trend. After peaking at USD 2.51/kg in the spring, prices fell significantly to USD 1.59/kg by the middle of the year, before recovering slightly towards the end of the year, but without reaching previous levels.
Fresh ginger remains an export hit
The USA remained the most important market for Peruvian ginger in 2025, although the export value fell to USD 57.2 million compared to the previous year. The Netherlands ranked second with USD 22.9 million, but also recorded a noticeable decline in import values. The picture was mixed in other target markets: while Spain expanded its imports from Peru, Canadian buyers reduced their import volumes. Exports of fresh ginger continued to dominate, accounting for more than 78% of the total value, but suffered significant losses due to lower prices. However, ginger juice performed well with rising export revenues, as did dried ginger with largely stable values. However, these increases were not sufficient to fully offset the decline in the fresh ginger segment, according to fresh fruit.
EU exports rose significantly
EU ginger imports in 2025 rose by just under 11% compared to the previous year. However, Peru only ranked sixth among the most important suppliers and delivered 226 mt. By far the largest volume was supplied by China, which shipped a total of 5,036 mt of processed ginger to EU countries – 56% more than in 2024. India (-19.8% to 870 mt) and Vietnam (+25.3% to 569 mt) followed in second and third place among the most important suppliers.
The largest buyer was the Netherlands with 2,640 mt, closely followed by Germany with 2,450 mt. The average import price was significantly above last year's level at EUR 3.20/kg, bringing the total import value to just under EUR 25.89 million.
