BRUSSELS. Egypt is turning to Europe for wheat. Transportation is becoming more difficult for corn in Ukraine. China is well on course to meet its commitments for US soybeans. EU rapeseed is remarkably resilient considering the extreme heatwaves witnessed in summer.

Egypt switches to Europe for wheat

Egypt’s Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade has confirmed that the bottlenecks in Russia and Ukraine are prompting the country to diversify the supply chain for wheat with Egypt turning to France, Bulgaria and Romania. In fact, a shipment of 50,000 mt of wheat from France is currently on its way to Egypt. Quality is also a factor. This year, French wheat is characterised by high protein levels averaging at 11.8% (last year 11.3%), high baking strength and dough elasticity in baking trials, with 87% of soft wheat classified
