BRUSSELS. While the production prospects for EU wheat have improved, the opposite is the case for corn. Demand is presenting golden opportunities for soybean meal. For rapeseed the environment is somewhat explosive.

Improved prospects for EU wheat

Grain trade association COCERAL has raised the forecast for the EU’s soft wheat crop to 143.7 million mt, up from its previous estimate of 142.6 million mt. Favourable rainfall in Spain, exceptional yields in the Balkan region and good harvesting conditions in Germany have contributed to positive assessments, although the weather at harvest time will still have a significant impact on quality. Production in France should range at 32.3 million mt (previous year 33.3 million tonnes), in Germany at 22.3 million mt (23 million mt),
