Hazelnuts: Is Ferrero doing business with the TMO?

ORDU. Although the farmgate prices have risen, it is due to the exchange rate that hazelnuts can still be pruchased comparatively cheap. There are, however, several factors indicating that the export prices are about to rise soon.

 

Growers reckon with price increases

This winter’s warm temperatures are still posing a considerable risk since severe frosts could have a more sever impact than usual. Rumour has it that the TMO is intending to sell about 40,000 mt of raw nuts very soon at a price above 11.50 TRY/kg, which should please the growers. Their stocks are estimated at about 100,000 mt and they do not wish to sell at the current farmgate price of 9.60 TRY/kg.
