Hazelnuts: new Ferrero purchase strategy

ORDU. In an unusual move, Ferrero is currently buying hazelnut kernels. At the same time, consternation prevails over the TMO’s purchasing strategy. Quality is still an issue for the new crop.

Ferrero switches to kernels

Ferrero has switched tactics this season. While the confectionery giant normally buys inshells in competition with Turkey’s Grain Board, the TMO, Ferrero is now actively buying kernels. With this change in purchasing strategy Ferrero is avoiding being dependent on the TMO minimum price. News this week is that Ferrero has contracted around 20,000-22,000 mt of kernels from twenty suppliers. Deliveries will run until 17 October and the price will be the same for all sellers.

Last week, Ferrero issued an offer of TRY 420-425/kg,
