Hazelnuts: Ferrero’s secret mission

ORDU. Although the demand in the export market still is far from satisfying, the farmgate prices are on the rise. The farmers are largely refusing to sell in the free market. Ferrero is meanwhile conducting purchases without attracting too much attention.

 

The market giant has been filling its stores over the last few weeks meaning that even if prices should surge suddenly Ferrero will not have to buy in a frenzy.

Farmers prefer to wait

The TMO has bought 7,700 mt so far and more sales have been registered. It should, however, be noted that the farmers who still hold hazelnuts largely prefer to wait at least until the local elections take place on 31 March and for the first crop estimates in spring.
