Hazelnuts: Little indication for good production in 2018

ORDU. “If” and “in case”. Words like this are frequently uttered to describe the Turkish hazelnut market this season, making it fertile soil for speculation, including the expected outstanding demand of the market leader.

Demand expectations
Current estimations put the uncovered demand of Ferrero/Olam at between 60,000 and 80,000 mt hazelnuts. Raw goods distributors are running out of product, while exporters are still well-stocked – especially with smaller processed products. Farmers are said to still hold on to 70,000–80.000 mt hazelnuts, and the TMO will join the market as a seller at some point as well. Whether there will be significant shortages above all depends on this year’s production.
