ORDU. Market players expected a statement on the official TMO prices for the coming hazelnut season in vain last week . Instead, the announcement is to come from the very top in the next few days.

Bold offers for new crop

As the Turkish Minister of Agriculture announced during his visit to the Black Sea coast last week, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will announce the base prices of the TMO himself in the coming days. For the time being, the prices for the new crop remain rather speculative, while buyers are still cautious about long-term coverage despite the growing demand.

Export prices for goods from the old crop are currently at EUR 6.00 per kg DDP Germany, while offers for new crop vary between EUR 6.39-6.52 per kg. After the last upward correction of the crop estimate to 660,000-665,000 metric tonnes, a few very courageous traders are speculating even with prices below EUR 6.00 per kg DDP Germany for new crop hazelnut kernels, natural, 11-13 mm.
