Slight price adjustments
Mustard seed sowing in Canada continues to progress. In south-western Saskatchewan and southern Alberta, sowing is currently in full swing. The market is focusing on the final cultivation figures, which are estimated at almost 200,000 ha in the latest report from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada – compared to last year, the acreage would thus be about a third larger.
According to the experts at Rayglen Commodities, the majority of Canadian mustard seed exports in recent months have been to the neighbouring US. However, shipments to the EU have also risen year-on-year.
Yellow mustard seeds are currently trading on the Canadian market at a level of CAD 0.38–0.40/lb FOB farm, while brown mustard seeds have even risen slightly and are quoted at CAD 0.35/lb. Prices for the new crop, however, are slightly higher, with yellow mustard seeds at CAD 0.40–0.42/lb.
