KIEV. Last year, the market witnessed the lowest yields on record in the Ukraine.

Decline in acregae, rise in yields

In the Ukraine, the largest production on record ranging at 80,000 metric tonnes was observed in 2014. The continual decline in acreage and yields have however prompted a cut back in production ever since. Average annual production currently ranges at 30,000-35,000 metric tonnes. Reports state that last year'S prodcution ranged at 33,100 metric tonnes. Problem is that the low average yields of 0.64 metric tonnes per hectare prevented a rise in production, despite an increase in acreage to 52,100 hectares.

This year, acreage has reportedly declined to 50,600 hectares. Reductions have in particular been reported in the eastern parts of the country. Since yields should, however, be higher prodcution is nevertheless expected to climb to an estimated 35,000 metric tonnes. Yello mustards seeds are currently trading in a range of EUR 0.36-0.40 per kg CPT Ukraine.
