High yields
Frost and drought this year have resulted in massive crop losses for important agricultural products in Turkey. In contrast, the olive crop is expected to achieve very good results. Regions such as Manisa, Bursa, Aydın, Mersin and Balıkesir are expected to achieve the best production, with quality and fruit size rated as excellent. Inspections carried out by the ministry confirm high yields in the olive groves, indicating one of the most promising olive crops in recent years.
While this year's crop was initially estimated at 2.45 million mt (-34.7% compared last year), the current forecast by the National Yield Estimation Committee indicates an olive crop of 3.6 million mt in 2025. More than 204 million of olive trees are currently cultivated in Turkey. Of these, 750,000 mt are expected to be table olives and the remaining 2.85 million mt will be processed into olive oil (approx. 475,000 mt). These results would be similar to those of last year.
Olive exports up 13% in October
Turkish table olive exporters ended the 2024/25 season with a record USD 255 million in exports. The first month of the 2025/26 season also got off to a good start. According to Emre Uygun, chairman of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters' Association, black olives worth USD 19.5 million (+9%) were exported, while green olive exports rose by as much as 28% to USD 5.5 million. The goal for this year is to export table olives worth USD 300 million from Turkey.
At the start of the season, Germany (USD 6.6 million) was the most important importer, followed by Iraq (USD 4.3 million) and Romania (2.7 million mt). There were also significant increases in exports to the USA (+39%), the UK (+194%) and Russia (+47%).
EU exports have risen by 25%
Following a good start to the 2025/26 export season, shipments from EU countries to third countries remain at a significantly higher level than in the previous year. Between 1 October and 7 December 2025, the EU supplied a total of 116,625 mt of olive oil (EU categories 1 to 5, treated and untreated) worth EUR 659.285 million. This represents a 24.8% increase in export volume, while the export value fell by around 18.5%. The average export price in the first two months of the current season was EUR 5.65/kg, compared to EUR 8.66/kg in the same period last year.
At 62,823 mt, more than half of EU exports came from Spain, followed by Italy (33,096 mt), Portugal (13,573 mt) and Greece (4,247 mt). A good quarter of EU shipments, 32,160 mt, went to the USA, with other important buyer countries being Brazil (13,554 mt), the United Kingdom (11,361 mt) and Korea (6,865 mt).
EU imports amounted to 8,773 mt of olive oil worth EUR 33.746 million in the above-mentioned period. With 4,633 mt, 52.8% of shipments came from Tunisia, while Turkey exported only 100 mt of olive oil to the EU – around 60% less than in the same period last year.
