NEW DELHI/BUENOS AIRES. Expectation is that India will change direction for peanuts again. International supplies are rather limited.

Market to turn again

Peanut prices may have slipped, yet the situation is about to change. One reason is that the Russian government has again increased the export tariff for sunflower oil by 250%. While duties still stood at USD 41.60/mt in July as much as USD 98.00/mt apply as of August. This will drastically reduce India's sunflower oil imports. In addition, government agencies such as the NAFED and NCCF do not have more than 550,000 mt of peanuts in storage. As new crops will only start entering the market after mid-September stocks will continue to be liquidate
