NEW DELHI/ATLANTA. Both India and the USA are expecting a very large peanut crop this year. This is putting pressure on prices. Indonesia has imposed a temporary ban on imports of Indian peanuts.

Aflatoxin levels too high

After peanut prices rose slightly last week, Indian market players had already warned that this upward trend would be short-lived, and they were proven right; compared to last week, prices have fallen by USD 10/mt. Demand on the domestic market is low, and NAFED is also selling its stocks at low prices. Currently, only oil mills are interested in continuous purchases. NAFED still has around 370,000 mt of peanuts, and market experts estimate that they could start the new season with 210,000 to 230,000 mt of carry-over stocks.
