BRUSSELS/NEW DELHI. While the EU is importing more peanuts as such, shipments from the US are 60% down. Sowing is in full swing in the US. Prices are following the same path in India.

Good progress in the USA

As the USDA reports sowing was 69% complete as of 25 May. This is 4% up on last year. In Virginia, sowing is even 90% complete, which may be 3% less than last year but is 9% higher than average. North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama are also important producing states. According to USDA estimates sowing will reach 758,000 ha in 2025/2026 and INC crop projections stand at 3.1 million mt for the US. Since harvesting will only start in September the weather will play a decisive role. Olam states that dry conditions have already caused some delays.

Further price declines in India

In India, quotations have continued to decline. While prices already dropped by 9% in May, this trend has continued for most sizes at the start of June. Bold 40-50 peanuts are the only variety that has retained firm prices since last week.
