Pecans: revised production estimates

AUSTIN. The National Pecan Sheller's Association (NPSA) has recently published its production estimates. They are rather optimistic. Us pecans are, in addition, in high demand in Germany.

Prodcution estimated at 137,500 metric tonnes

The first prices for this year's crop have been issued in the US. According to Anderson Exports, however, shipments of shelled pecan nuts will only start in mid-December at the earliest. The current production estimates range higher than initial expectations. New productive orchards and favourable weather condittions have, for instance, prompted the National Pecan Sheller's Association to reckon with a production of nearly 137,500 metric tonnes.
