TEHRAN. Raisins from Iran are around 30 % cheaper than in the global market. Last year, Iran exported 113,673 metric tonnes of raisins worth USD 152,94 million meaning that the average prices for one kg of rains ranged at USD 1.35 per kg. The world market average price ranges higher at USD 2.00 per kg.

Lack of proper packaging keeps prices down

The reason why the raisins from Iran are comparatively cheap is the lack of proper packaging and sorting. Iranian raisins are rather exported in bulk and the main export destinations include the United Arab Emirates, Iraq and Turkey as well as Kazakhstan and Russia. Although Turkey is the largest producer and exporter of raisins, the country also imports from Iran to add to variety. Most of the Iranian raisins imported to Turkey and then reexported to Europe.

Further rise in exports anticipated
