Sunflower seeds: hullers are fully booked

SOFIA. The market is bustling with activity in Bulgaria as many buyers still require sunflower kernels before Christmas. Rumours are afloat in the market. The production in the Urkaine has suffered some setbacks over the last two years.

Further price rises expected

The hullers in Bulgaria are working under high pressure to handle all enquiries and contract call-offs before Christmas. Additional prompt deliveries are not available at present. The high demand, in combination with the decline in produciton and the high reject rate due to the small kernels, is driving prices further up. As a rule, the official CPT Varna indications are largely firm. This week the quotations for black in-shells with a 96% purity have, however, risen above EUR 304 per metric tonne.
