Blue poppy seeds: exports remain below average

CHRUDIM. According to the Czech Statistical Office, last season's poppy seed exports declined to the second lowest level witnessed in five years.

Poppy seed exports range as low as 18,809 mt

The Czech Republic exported a total of 18,809 mt of poppy seeds in 2019/2020. Although exports have risen by 27% as compared with last year, they, nevertheless range 11.5% below the 5-year moving average of 21,256 mt. Russia is the most important export destination. The volumes shipped to Russia have nearly approached levels seen prior to 2018/2019, but still range 1,000 mt below shipments in 2018/2019. Shipments to Austria, by contrast, range well above average at 4,481 mt.

NEW DELHI. In India the prospects for sesame seeds are highly encouraging. On 04 May the Indian Oilseeds and Produce Export Promotion Council (IOPEPC) will issue a first estimate for the summer crop. Weak demand is, however, proving a challenge for exporters.
