BEIJING. Pumpkin seed exporters in China are confronted with a sharp rise in prices prompted by speculative buying. Hope is that tables will turn over the next few weeks.

No interest in buying

The current developments in China's pumpkin seed market by no means reflect actual circumstances. Speculative buying has rendered prices unattractive. Buyers had, in fact, reckoned with cheaper prices due to coronavirus restrictions and encouraging production outlooks. The rise in prices in recent weeks has further reduced the already low interest in pumpkin seeds from China this season. Export sales have stalled. Market players reckon that it may take up to two months for speculators to get the message and for prices to go down.
