Dried figs: illegal exports to China

TEHRAN. Iran’s dried fig exporters resort to creative means to circumvent high import duties in China. Problem, however, is that this results in illegal trading activities, thereby creating enormous damage for the industry. Market players are also calling for quality controls to be improved.

High import duties need to be resolved

China is the most important export destination for Iran’s dried figs. Problem, however, is that China has imposed import tariffs as high as 39%, 30% in customs duties and an additional 9% in tax. This has prompted traders in Iran to refuse to directly ship to China and to export through a third country instead.
