Spice market update: high moisture content reduces quality

GUJARAT. Weekly monitoring with the latest market information from India on cumin, coriander and turmeric, chilli, black pepper and cardamom as well as a price list for more than 70 products.

Cumin

While cumin prices initially remained stable at the beginning of the week, they have recorded noticeable increases in recent days. This is partly because the moisture content of the new crop is falling, improving quality, and partly because of rising demand ahead of holidays such as Ramadan and Easter. Arrivals are also picking up and on the mandis, local spice mills in particular are stocking up. Grade A cumin currently costs USD 2,018/mt FOB India.
