Sesame seeds: Decline in imports

NEW DELHI. Imports to Germany have dropped by as much as 38% since 2016. India has, in addition, won most of the bids for the South Korean tender.

 

India to supply 8,800 mt

Suppliers in India have, as expected, won most of the bids for the tender from South Korea. Only as little as 1,100 mt will by supplied from other origins such as Pakistan and Vietnam. The original tender was issued for 10,000 mt.

Rain impacts prices

The high rainfall in Gujarat caused the sesame prices to drop this week and enhanced demand. Traders are hoping for an increase in acreage and ideal growing conditions for the main crop to compensate for the small summer crop.
