NEW DELHI. Traders are always insisting that the prices for Indian sesame seeds rose because of the precipitation in the last few weeks. At the same time, the low tender offers prove that the availability is not so bad after all.

Mystery surrounding the new crop
Depending on the supplier, the prices for Indian sesame seeds can vary by several hundred dollars per ton. Hulled sesame seeds are being offered between 1,480-1,750 USD/mt CIF Hamburg, and the prices for natural sesame seeds vary within a range of 1,280-1,450 USD/mt CIF Hamburg. A glance at the price chart (see annex) shows that despite the uncertain harvest situation resulting from heavy monsoon rains in the growing areas, the prices are at a similar level to last two years at this time.
