Sesame seeds: Heatwave in the growing regions

NEW DELHI. Experts assume that Indian sesame seed farmers will sow a similar area for the 2019 summer crop as in previous years. Due to the drought, however, the yield potential is lower.

Area under cultivation expected as in 2018
In the northwest of India, heat and drought persist. In Gujarat, the largest cultivation area for the sesame farmers' summer crop, the temperatures regularly exceed 40 °C. However, there are no rain showers in sight. By 01 April 2019, 14,617 ha had been sown with sesame seeds in Gujarat, reported the Foretell experts.
