NEW DELHI. As the picture cocnerning the crop damages is becoming clearer the production estimates have laregely been revised. Market players are curretnly being adjusted. India has to, in addition, compete with Africa and Pakistan.

Crop damage is not as bad as anticipated

Since the rain clouds have dissipated the extent of the heavy rainfall can be better estimated. Contrary to expectations, the losses in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat and Rajasthan are only expected to range at about 10-15%. Hitherto expectations ranged above 30%. Regions that were spared the continuing rain showers are even reckoning with a good production. Although the rain prompted harvest delays, the first arrivals have already been observed.
