Sesame seeds: prices rise above USD 2.00 per kg

GUJARAT/DALIAN. Concerns in India over massive crop damages caused prices to surge over the weekend. Meanwhile, traders in China report that the National Day, which is currently being celebrated, has impacted the market for sesame seeds.

Roller coaster ride in India

Over the weekend the prices for hulled sesame seeds peaked at USD 2.17 per kg CIF Hamburg. Concerns over massive crop damages of up to 30% brought on by excessive rainfalls prompted producers to raise their prices. As traders report the market has now cooled off again with hulled sesame seeds trading at USD 1.93 per kg CIF Hamburg.
