NEW DELHI. The coronavirus is having a considerable impact on the sesame seed market. Problem is that China purchases large supplies of hulled sesame seeds in Africa. Demand from China has, however, stalled completely.

Traders respond with price cuts

The lack of demand from China has prompted traders in Africa to go down in price. Natural sesame seeds with a 98% purity are currently trading at USD 1.28 per kg FOB Sudan. Prices have now also plummeted in India. The prices for hulled sesame seeds with a 99.95% purity have declined by as much as USD 0.90 per kg to USD 1.60 per kg CIF Hamburg since last week.
