NEW DELHI. Although sowing for the summer crop started off slowly in Gujarat, first estimates are now available. Traders have a clear idea in which direction sesame seed prices are headed.

Sluggish demand

Subdued export demand is weighing on the market. Demand is particularly weak for hulled sesame seeds. Market players also report that this situation has prompted 70% of the hulling factories to close for now. Even the fact that stocks have drastically declined in the local markets has failed to prevent prices from tumbling.
