The share of organic farming in the EU continues to grow

Organic production areas have increased by 2 million hectares over 5 years

 

In 2016 organic farming areas in the European Community reached 12 million hectares, or 6.7% of all agricultural land in the community, according to the European Statistics Agency Eurostat. In just 5 years organic areas have grown by 2 million hectares. The number of organic farmers in the EC is increasing with a total of 295 600 people at the end of 2016. The largest producers of organic products in the EC are Spain, Italy, France and Germany.
