Spice market update: pepper market in a vicious circle

Cumin prices have climbed by another USD 60/mt compared to last week. Market players report that traders are sometimes going directly to farmers and making them tempting offers that are even higher than the current market prices; many farmers are nevertheless not willing to sell as they expect even stronger price increases. At present, market players reckon that almost 70% of the remaining goods are in the hands of the growers. MASHHAD. Annual production normally exceeds 300 mt in Iran’s Khorasan Razavi Province, but climatic conditions have changed and production now only ranges at 150 mt.
