Spice market update: pepper prices skyrocket

GUJARAT. Weekly monitoring with the latest market information from India on cumin, coriander and turmeric, chilli, black pepper and cardamom as well as a price list for more than 70 products.

Cumin

After significant price reductions at the beginning of the week, levels have now stabilised again and prices have settled at USD 2,820/mt FOB India, up USD 5/mt from last week. Current estimates for Indian production in 2022 are 316,281 mt compared to 391,801 mt last year. This would be the second consecutive decline. Both Rajasthan and Gujarat have seen further reductions in acreage. The recent drop in prices can be attributed to the arrival of the new crop in the markets, but it still has too high a moisture content. Buyers are therefore holding back for the

BRUSSELS. Although EU importers spent less on spices in 2025 than in the record year of 2024, the import value is still quite high as official statistics show. Record amounts were, in fact, spent on cardamom, fenugreek and spice mixtures, saffron and turmeric. Pepper tops the chart. While the year-to-year import value has risen for cinnamon, cloves and mace, the opposite is the case for capsicum, ginger and vanilla, cumin, nutmeg and coriander and curry.
