Spice market update: turmeric is of poor quality

GUJARAT. Weekly monitoring with the latest market information from India on cumin, coriander and turmeric, chilli, black pepper and cardamom as well as a price list for more than 70 products.

Cumin

Thanks to good weather conditions, producers expect a 25-30% higher crop than last season. There are enough supplies available on the market, but demand is currently low as buyers are waiting for the new crop. This puts pressure on prices, which have declined by USD 40.00 per metric tonne compared to last week. Grade A cumin is traded at USD 2,240 per metric tonne.

BRUSSELS. Although EU importers spent less on spices in 2025 than in the record year of 2024, the import value is still quite high as official statistics show. Record amounts were, in fact, spent on cardamom, fenugreek and spice mixtures, saffron and turmeric. Pepper tops the chart. While the year-to-year import value has risen for cinnamon, cloves and mace, the opposite is the case for capsicum, ginger and vanilla, cumin, nutmeg and coriander and curry.
