Sugar: Prices spiral downwards

FRANKFURT. Sugar in Europe is already trading 45% lower than last year. Big producers are now, however, offering even lower prices.

 

Prices below 320 EUR/mt DDP

EU refined beet sugar production is set to decline for the first time in three years. The USDA reckons with a 4.1% drop in production to 20.02 million mt this season. It should, however, be noted that this value is still about 2-5 million mt above the moving average of the last few years. There are no signs of a shortage of supplies.

Granulated sugar is currently trading 45% or rather 275 EUR/mt lower than one year ago. Truck loads are being sold at 355 EUR/mt DDP Germany. Market players, however, report that S&uuml
