Sunflower seeds: COCERAL revises EU estimates upwards

SOFIA. COCERAL has published new production estimates for Europe. Production is much better than previously expected. Meanwhile, the weather in Bulgaria is excellent and the harvest should be completed very soon.

 

Growing price pressure
Ever greater quantities of raw seeds are becoming available in Bulgaria. Not only the expectations by market players but also the updated estimates given by COCERAL, the European agricultural trade association, are significantly better than the situation at the beginning of the harvest suggested.

The official farmgate prices have dropped by ca. 10 EUR/mt since last week and are currently standing at 281 EUR/mt CPT Varna. Prices for bakery kernels have also declined. Traders are offering kernels from 610 EUR/mt DDP Germany

SOFIA/KYIV. The US Department of Agriculture has drastically reduced its production estimates compared to its November report. In particular, the forecasts for Ukraine have been adjusted downwards. However, the result could have been even lower.
