Sunflower seeds: crop prospects allow for "moderate optimism"

SOFIA/CHISINAU. The US Department of Agriculture has increased its forecast for the global sunflower seed crop in 2021 and market players in Bulgaria and Moldova are also satisfied with current developments.

Good conditions

In important European growing countries such as Bulgaria and Moldova, market players had expressed concern about the persistent rainfall, after last year's crop had already shown a considerable production deficit due to drought. Since the end of last week, however, the mood in the growing regions is more confident again. July has already been much sunnier, which benefits the development of the plants - as does the abundant soil moisture.
