SOFIA/KYIV. The Ukrainian Grain Association is sticking to its forecast for the 2022 sunflower seed crop, while other products are failing to meet expectations. Meanwhile, Bulgaria is experiencing harvest delays due to rainfall.

Rainfall delays harvest

According to market players, the dry weather in the Bulgarian growing regions is not only having a negative impact on sunflower seed yields, the quality of the oilseeds is also suffering. What has been harvested so far is more than sobering, according to one trader. Recently, there have also been delays in the harvesting process due to rainfall. As a result, there is concern that there could be a shortage and further price increases in the 2022/2023 season if the shortfall cannot be made up with imports from Ukraine.
