Sunflower seeds: EU crop around 1 million mt below 5-year average

SOFIA/KYIV. The EU sunflower seed crop 2025 is the second lowest in the last nine years. France's crop was slightly better than expected, but still below last year's result.

Crop correction for France

An adjustment to French sunflower seed crop estimates meant that EU-wide production was revised slightly upwards in the current January report. Instead of the previously expected 1.435 million mt, France's crop is now estimated to have reached 1.459 million mt. Year-on-year, however, this still represents a decline of 1.4%. Other major producing countries such as Hungary, Bulgaria and Spain also experienced significant crop deficits this season.
