Sunflower seeds: EU crop could exceed 11 million mt

SOFIA/KYIV. To make room for the new crop, Ukrainian companies are trying to keep exports to the EU going. Now market players are reporting that petrol is becoming increasingly scarce. Meanwhile, the European Commission has updated its crop forecast for the 2022 EU crop.

Ukraine runs out of fuel

Sunflower seed supplies from Ukraine are holding at a high level, with the EU importing almost 20,000 mt last week alone. With significantly less food commodities exported from Ukraine than planned since March due to the siege by Russia, market players are forced to part with much of their stock as soon as possible to make room for the new crop in their warehouses. However, market players report that Ukrainian transport service providers are slowly running out of fuel, so it is still unclear how exports will be maintained.
